Web design Brooklyn NY means planning, building and maintaining a website for a business that serves Brooklyn customers, so it loads fast on phones, works for people who read different languages, meets accessibility expectations and is easy to find in search. MIS Services builds custom WordPress and Next.js sites for Brooklyn businesses, with ongoing care and SEO plans from $499 per month, month-to-month. We are based in Lindenhurst on Long Island, not Brooklyn, and work with you by video call or at our office. See our web design and development service or book a free audit.
What Is Web Design Brooklyn NY, and Where Is MIS Based?
Web design Brooklyn NY is the work of planning, designing and building a website for a business that serves Brooklyn customers, then keeping that site fast, accessible and easy to find in search. For a Brooklyn business that usually means more than a good-looking homepage. The site has to load quickly on a phone, work for visitors who read different languages, meet accessibility expectations in the state with the most website accessibility lawsuits, protect any customer data it collects, and make clear which neighborhood, address or service area you cover.
People search for this as web design Brooklyn, web design in Brooklyn, website design Brooklyn, web designers in Brooklyn NY or Brooklyn web design company. The question underneath is the same: who can build a site that brings in customers and does not become a liability? If your project is bigger than a brochure site, you may also be comparing a web development company in New York City; the build cost section below shows our typical ranges.
Where MIS is based, and where we are not
MIS Services Inc is at 12 W Sunrise HWY, Lindenhurst, NY 11757, on Long Island's South Shore. We do not have a Brooklyn office, and we are not a Brooklyn agency. We work with Brooklyn businesses by video call, phone and email, or at our Lindenhurst office. We have no published Brooklyn case study and cite no Brooklyn clients on this page, so it does not pretend otherwise.
What we can offer is a team in business since 2014 that works in-house with no offshore handoffs and has served 375 clients across the United States. If you prefer an agency whose staff can walk to your shop, that is a reasonable preference, and the checklists on this page will help you question any agency you consider. If your business is on Long Island, our Long Island web design page is the closer fit.
How Big Is Brooklyn's Business Market, and What Must a Site Do?
The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce's Q2 2025 Economic Snapshot, which attributes its business counts to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, lists 74,141 private-sector businesses in Brooklyn for the fourth quarter of 2024, against 289,860 for New York City as a whole. That is roughly one in four of the city's businesses. The American Community Survey's 2024 one-year estimates, as published by Census Reporter, put Kings County at about 2.6 million residents.
Treat the business count as a floor. BLS's county employment series is built from employer unemployment-insurance reports and leaves out proprietors and the unincorporated self-employed, so freelancers and sole proprietors are likely missing from it. The real number of competitors for your search terms is higher.
| Sector | Businesses | Employed | What the website has to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trade, transportation and utilities (includes retail and wholesale) | 13,855 | 120,194 | Fast category and product pages on mobile, accurate stock and hours, an accessible checkout. See ecommerce SEO. |
| Professional and business services | 11,173 | 73,295 | Clear service pages, team credentials and a short, accessible inquiry form. |
| Education and health services | 8,486 | 427,165 | Plain navigation, accessible forms and careful handling of customer data. |
| Leisure and hospitality (includes restaurants) | 7,951 | 70,956 | Menus and hours as real text, tap-to-call, tap-for-directions, booking or ordering links. |
| Manufacturing | 1,638 | 16,253 | Capabilities, certifications and a request-for-quote form for buyers who compare vendors online. |

How Should a Brooklyn Website Handle Multiple Languages?
The American Community Survey's 2024 one-year estimates, as published by Census Reporter, show that 45.6% of Kings County residents speak a language other than English at home, about 1.12 million people. The comparable figure is 31.7% for New York State and 23% for the United States. About 35.7% of Kings County residents were born outside the United States. GovTech reported in July 2026 that nearly 23% of Brooklyn residents older than five have limited English proficiency, citing New York City's new Language Explorer tool.
Which languages? NYC Planning's 2018 American Community Survey table, the latest Brooklyn-level breakdown we could open, ranked Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Yiddish (which the Census Bureau groups with other West Germanic languages) and Haitian as the five most common non-English home languages in Brooklyn, followed by Arabic, French, Urdu, Hebrew and Bengali. Those figures are from 2018, so treat them as direction, not a current count.
Here is how we turn that into site structure:
- Choose languages from your own customers, not from the borough list. Look at the languages people use when they call, review you or ask in the store. A site in five languages that your staff cannot support by phone makes a promise you cannot keep.
- Give each language its own URL and annotate it. Google documents country-code domains, subdomains and subdirectories as options; a subdirectory such as /es/ is the low-maintenance choice for a single-city business. Google's hreflang guidance says each version must list itself and every other version.
- Have a fluent person write or review each translation. Google warns that translating only the boilerplate while leaving most content in one language "can create a bad user experience."
- Do not auto-redirect by browser language. Google says it can stop visitors and search engines from reaching every version. Use a visible language switcher.
- Plan for right-to-left text. W3C names Arabic, Hebrew, Urdu and Yiddish among the languages written right-to-left and calls the HTML dir attribute essential for those scripts.
We build and test the structure. The translated copy should come from a fluent speaker you trust, and we can build around copy you approve.
What Does New York Accessibility Litigation Mean for a Brooklyn Website?
This is the most Brooklyn-specific risk on this page, because New York is where the filings concentrate. The table summarizes 2025 counts from two trackers: Seyfarth Shaw's ADA Title III blog, which counts federal filings, and UsableNet, which reviews federal and state complaints.
| Measure (2025) | Figure | Publisher |
|---|---|---|
| Federal website accessibility suits under ADA Title III | 3,117, up 27% from 2,452 in 2024 | Seyfarth Shaw |
| Of those, filed in New York | 1,021, the most of any state (Florida: 961) | Seyfarth Shaw |
| Digital accessibility suits, federal plus key state courts | More than 5,000 | UsableNet |
| Share of suits against e-commerce sites | Nearly 70% | UsableNet |
| Share against food and service businesses | About 21% | UsableNet |
| Suits against companies already sued over web accessibility | 1,427 | UsableNet |
Retailers and restaurants sit in the categories those numbers describe. The City of New York's NYC Business site says "Many NYC businesses have been sued over website accessibility," tells owners to check their sites against current WCAG, and warns that settling does not protect a business from being sued again. UsableNet adds that courts have let cases proceed where users in a state can reach a site, even without a physical presence there.
On the standard: the Justice Department's web guidance says the ADA's requirements apply to the online offerings of businesses open to the public, says it has no regulation setting out detailed standards, points to WCAG as a helpful technical reference, and leaves businesses flexibility in how they comply. UsableNet calls WCAG 2.1 AA the standard most commonly requested in litigation. W3C published WCAG 2.2 in October 2023 with nine new success criteria and says content that conforms to 2.2 also conforms to 2.1 and 2.0. We use WCAG 2.2 AA as our working standard. One of its AA additions, Target Size (Minimum), sets 24 by 24 CSS pixels as the baseline for most tap targets, which also helps phone users.
We build for it from the wireframe stage and check keyboard use, contrast, form labels and alt text before launch. We do not treat an overlay widget as a fix: UsableNet reported lawsuits against sites using accessibility widgets peaking above 150 in a single month in 2025. This is general information, not legal advice. Ask a New York attorney about your own exposure.
Does the New York SHIELD Act Apply to Your Website?
If your site collects customer information, the SHIELD Act is relevant. The New York Attorney General's SHIELD Act guidance says the law, signed July 25, 2019, amends the state's 2005 breach law and requires any person or business that maintains private information to adopt administrative, technical and physical safeguards. It also expanded the definition of "private information" to include biometric information and online login credentials (a username or email address with password credentials), so customer accounts on your site can fall inside it.
The Attorney General lists examples of reasonable safeguards. Administrative ones include designating someone to run the security program, assessing risks, training staff, and choosing service providers that can maintain safeguards and requiring that by contract. Technical ones include assessing network and software risks, detecting and responding to attacks, and regularly testing controls. Physical ones include disposing of private information within a reasonable time once it is no longer needed. For failing to maintain safeguards, a court may impose a civil penalty of up to $5,000 per violation, and late breach notices can draw up to $20 per failed notification, capped at $250,000.
On a website, that becomes build decisions: collect only the form fields you need, keep customer data out of places it does not belong, remove unused plugins and accounts, keep software updated, and put expectations for any vendor that touches customer data in writing. This is general information, not legal advice, so confirm what the law requires of your business with counsel.
How Do You Structure Brooklyn Neighborhood Pages Without Doorway Pages?
Neighborhoods matter because of how Google ranks local results. Google's local ranking guidance names relevance, distance and prominence, with distance measured against the searcher, so a person in Bay Ridge and a person in Williamsburg can see different businesses for the same search.
The tempting shortcut is one page per neighborhood, such as Williamsburg, DUMBO, Park Slope, Bay Ridge, Sunset Park, Brooklyn Heights and Bushwick, with the same text and the name swapped. Google's spam policies call pages "created to rank for specific, similar search queries" doorway abuse, and its examples include pages targeted at specific regions or cities that funnel users to one page. The same policies name blocks of text that list the cities and regions a page is trying to rank for as keyword stuffing. Here is how we avoid both:
- A location page exists only for an address you actually staff. Google's Business Profile guidelines allow one profile per location and say virtual offices are not eligible. That is also why MIS cannot open a Brooklyn profile for itself, and why your profile belongs at your own address.
- Each location page carries details only that location has: hours, entrance and accessibility notes, parking or transit directions, staff, photos, menu or inventory differences and that location's reviews.
- Service-area businesses get one strong page per service. Neighborhoods are named only where true and useful, such as areas you serve and jobs you have done. Google lets a profile list up to 20 service areas, defined by city or postal code rather than radius.
- The merge test: if two pages would be identical once the neighborhood name is deleted, they should be one page.
| Business type | Structure we recommend | What we avoid |
|---|---|---|
| One storefront or restaurant | One location page, a Business Profile at that address, neighborhood context on the About and Contact pages | Seven near-identical neighborhood pages |
| Two or three real locations | One page per staffed location with unique details, shared service pages | Cloned location pages for areas with no site |
| Mobile or contractor service area | One page per service, service areas set in the Business Profile, proof from real jobs | A page per neighborhood with swapped names |
| Studio or professional office | Strong service, portfolio and team pages, neighborhood named naturally in address and directions | Lists of neighborhood keywords in the footer |
Should a Brooklyn Business Choose WordPress or Custom Next.js?
W3Techs reported on October 3, 2026 that WordPress runs 40.2% of all websites and 58.6% of those whose content management system it can identify. That popularity means a deep pool of themes, plugins and developers. It also means a large attack surface: Patchstack's 2026 report counted 11,334 new vulnerabilities in the WordPress ecosystem in 2025, up 42% from 2024, with 91% in plugins and 46% unpatched at public disclosure.
Next.js takes a different approach. Its documentation says pages are Server Components by default, rendered on the server, which can reduce the JavaScript sent to the browser and improve First Contentful Paint. Our own site is hand-coded in Next.js, and we also support WordPress.
| Question | WordPress | Custom Next.js or headless WordPress + Next.js |
|---|---|---|
| Who edits content? | Staff use the familiar WordPress admin. | Custom Next.js: content lives in files or a CMS we set up. Headless keeps the WordPress editor behind a separate Next.js front end. |
| Where does risk sit? | In plugins and themes. Each added plugin is more code to keep updated. | In custom code, which needs a developer to maintain, with fewer third-party plugins. |
| Speed headroom | Good with a lean theme and few plugins, but needs ongoing tuning. | Server rendering can send less JavaScript, but speed still has to be measured. |
| Best fit | Sites staff update often: brochure sites, blogs, content-heavy sites. | Speed-critical, multilingual or highly custom projects. |
Our rule of thumb: pick WordPress when your team will edit often and wants a familiar admin, and Next.js when speed, custom functionality or multilingual structure is the priority. Both can meet WCAG 2.2 AA. Our web design and development page covers both.
Why Do Mobile Speed and Core Web Vitals Matter in Brooklyn?
Pew Research Center's 2025 survey (fielded February to June 2025) found that 91% of U.S. adults own a smartphone and 16% are smartphone-only internet users, meaning they own a smartphone but do not use home broadband. Google uses the mobile version of a site for indexing and ranking, so the phone layout is the version that gets judged.
Google's Core Web Vitals set the yardsticks, measured at the 75th percentile of page loads per web.dev: Largest Contentful Paint within 2.5 seconds, Interaction to Next Paint at 200 milliseconds or less, and Cumulative Layout Shift at 0.1 or less. Google says good scores align with what its ranking systems seek to reward, but they are one factor, not a substitute for useful content.
Speed also touches revenue. web.dev's summary of the Deloitte study "Milliseconds Make Millions," commissioned by Google, covered 37 European and American brand sites and over 30 million sessions. After a 0.1 second improvement across four speed metrics, retail shoppers spent 9.2% more, and lead-generation sites saw a 21.6% increase in visitors reaching the form-submission page. The data are from late 2019 and from large brands, so read them as direction, not a forecast.
- Tap-to-call and tap-for-directions buttons, sized to at least 24 by 24 CSS pixels.
- Hours, holiday hours and menus as real page text, not PDFs.
- Compressed images and a lean script load, checked on mid-range phones.
- Field data reviewed in PageSpeed Insights and the Core Web Vitals report in Google Search Console.

How Much Does a Brooklyn Website Cost to Build?
A build is a one-time project fee, separate from the monthly care and SEO plans further down this page. These are our typical ranges for custom work:
| Build type | Typical one-time cost | Best for | What moves the price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Custom WordPress site | $3,500-$15,000 | Brochure, content-heavy and frequently edited sites | Page templates, languages, e-commerce, integrations, content volume |
| Custom Next.js, or headless WordPress + Next.js | $8,000-$25,000+ | Speed-critical, multilingual or highly custom builds | Custom functionality, languages, integrations, migrating existing content |
Four things typically push a project toward the top of a range: more than one language, e-commerce or booking features, several real locations that each need their own page, and a site migration that must keep existing search rankings through proper redirects. Scope is settled during the free audit, and the typical ranges above match what appears on our other web design pages.
What Results Can You Expect, and How Do We Measure Them?
We have no published Brooklyn web design case study, we cite no Brooklyn clients on this page, and we will not invent a result. Here is what we can say honestly.
What we measure
- Google Search Console: impressions, clicks and average position for Brooklyn-intent queries.
- Google Analytics 4: form submissions, bookings and other conversions.
- Call tracking such as CallRail: calls that start from the site.
- Google Business Profile: the performance reports Google provides for each location.
- PageSpeed Insights: Core Web Vitals from real-user field data over the previous 28 days, plus lab diagnostics.
- Microsoft Clarity: session recordings and heatmaps that show where mobile visitors get stuck.
What drives results
Google's SEO Starter Guide says some changes show up within hours and others take several months, and suggests waiting a few weeks before judging the effect. Local visibility depends on relevance, distance and prominence, and speed and accessibility shape what visitors do once they arrive. Competition, your starting point and your budget move all of it, so results vary. Our search engine optimization service reports on the same measures.
The one number we can offer is client-reported: across 10 client websites we manage, traffic is up 35% and inbound calls are landing, with no time period attached. Those sites span industries and are listed on our SEO portfolio page. They are not a forecast for a Brooklyn business.
